1997 Louis Jadot, Beaune Clos des Ursules (Burgundy, France)
Light cherry, lots of gentle, dusty cocoa and a hint of fresh herbs. The palate has cracking structure, a hint of spice, and just the slightest alcohol heat, but a stunning savoury element throughout with beautiful berry fruit. I think this is as near perfect as it is going to get. 8/10
2002 Domaine Fourrier Morey St Denis Clos Solon (Burgundy, France)
A stony, menthol and cherry aroma with little hints of brussels sprouts with a sprinkling of toffee. The palate is gorgeous, a bit farmyardy, but with outstanding fruit cutting through this, very precise. There is some plum on the finish. A great wine, and very very fresh, but still too young. 9/10
2006 Erath Prince Hill Pinot Noir (Dundee, Oregon)
A light element of cherry drops, with some fresh cherry and chocolate aromas. There is a sweet palate, a bit aggressive in terms of alcohol, with a bit of buttered popcorn spoiling the party a bit, but with nice raspberry fruit throughout. Just a bit too new worldy for me. 7/10
By the way, the steak pie was delicious and you can get them from Ceres Butchers!
